NENUPHAR was also showcased at Viļāni Field Day, one of the most important agricultural events in Latvia’s Latgale region. The event brought together farmers, agricultural professionals, and other stakeholders, providing an excellent opportunity to discuss how nutrient recycling and circular fertilisers can contribute to more sustainable and resource-efficient farming systems.
Project partners highlighted the role that recovered nutrients can play in reducing both environmental pollution and dependence on increasingly expensive mineral fertilisers. Visitors were able to learn more about sewage sludge compost as a practical example of nutrient recovery, while engaging directly with experts on topics such as safety, agricultural application, and regulatory requirements.
The event also served as a valuable platform for dialogue with the farming community. Feedback gathered from participants helped improve understanding of the opportunities and barriers associated with adopting recycled fertilisers in practice. These insights support NENUPHAR’s ongoing work to develop effective governance models and incentives that can encourage the wider uptake of circular nutrient management solutions across Europe.
By engaging directly with farmers and other key stakeholders, Viļāni Field Day helped strengthen awareness of nutrient recovery technologies and their potential to deliver both environmental and economic benefits for agriculture.
