NENUPHAR Engages Farmers at Tractor Day in Tērvete

NENUPHAR was presented to farmers and agricultural stakeholders at Tractor Day in Tērvete, one of Latvia’s major annual agricultural events. Representing the project, partner organisation Zemnieku Saeima (ZSA) showcased how nutrient recovery technologies and circular fertilisers can help reduce dependence on increasingly costly mineral fertilisers while supporting more sustainable farming practices.

A particular focus of the event was the practical use of recovered nutrients in agriculture. Visitors had the opportunity to see sewage sludge compost firsthand and discuss its application, safety, and agronomic benefits directly with project experts. These exchanges provided valuable insight into farmers’ perspectives on nutrient recycling and the opportunities and challenges associated with adopting circular nutrient management solutions.

Beyond raising awareness of the project’s work, the event served as an important opportunity to gather feedback from the farming community. Understanding farmers’ needs, concerns, and willingness to adopt recovered nutrient products is essential to ensuring that NENUPHAR’s solutions are both practical and economically viable in real-world agricultural settings.

Despite less-than-ideal weather conditions, Tractor Day provided a valuable platform to engage directly with end users and demonstrate the potential of nutrient recovery to support more resilient, resource-efficient farming systems across Europe.
