November 5 was dedicated to the General Assembly of Nenuphar project where we jointly assessed our progresses and collaboration and provided useful updates on the results and challenges of the project.

November 6 – Morning
On November 6, the project team had the pleasure of visiting the cheese factory of TEBIKE, and discover more on their innovative technology to recover nutrients from the process, one of our fantastic partners in the NenuPhar_EU project.
It was inspiring to see how this family-run company is using advanced technologies to reduce nutrient loss and promote circular economy solutions – supporting the environment while strengthening their business. Oh, and yes… the cheese was absolutely delicious!
In Hungary and Slovakia, our partners Széchenyi István University (SZE) and TEBIKE work on the Danube River Basin Demonstrator (WP3&WP5).
Within the Hungarian side, SZE is designing and monitoring the membrane filtration by ozone pre-treatment technology that is being tested in the industrial pilot of TEBIKE. The combination of membrane separation and high-efficiency oxidation processes, during which the ozone used can efficiently oxidize those compounds that cause membrane clogging, increasing the life expectancy of the membranes. The micro-flocculation effect of ozone may play a significant role in increasing the elimination efficiency and may decrease the extent of membrane fouling. The remaining sludge will be utilised for feed compound production or for biogas production, while the filtrate can be discharged into wastewater-treatment fermenters.
TEBIKE is an active participant in the project, taking part in activities such as, provision of research and technology infrastructure, technology development, prototyping and demonstration, communication, dissemination and stakeholder engagement. Watch the video to learn more about TEBIKE’s production process, company history, and the family who proudly run this local gem!

Afternoon
On the afternoon of November 6, partners and colleagues from other projects P2Green and Bioeast gathered at the beautiful and historical site of SZE[AG1] for a series of projects’ presentation and workshops to advance work done in the Community of Members of the Danube River Basin.
Workshops focused on sharing insights from the Hungarian Community of Members and identify cross-regional synergies along with assessing policy tools and instruments for nutrients governance.
